An election plan can be as simple as choosing a day, checking the location and setting aside enough time to vote without rushing.

In Jefferson County, no-excuse early voting runs October 29 through October 31, with locations open from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening.

For readers making weekend plans, Friday and Saturday offer an opportunity to cast a ballot before Election Day.

The county's published locations include the Jeffersonian, the University of Louisville Shelby Campus, community centers and other sites across the county.

Check the complete current location list before traveling rather than assuming your usual Election Day precinct is an early-voting site.

The Kentucky Exposition Center also has walk-in and drive-through voting at South Wing Door E19 during the early-voting period.

That location serves all county precincts and voters, with the same option available on Election Day.

Voting on Tuesday, November 3, runs from 6 in the morning until 6 in the evening.

Confirm your Election Day voting location and review the identification requirements before leaving home.

The Louisville NAACP has also introduced a voter guide to help residents understand local races and navigate the ballot.

Treat a sample ballot as preparation: reading it beforehand gives you time to look up unfamiliar offices and questions.

Transportation belongs in the plan as well, particularly for anyone relying on a bus route or a ride from a relative.

TARC's announced Election Day fare-free service offers another option, but passengers still need to match the route and schedule to their destination.

The free-ride announcement applies to Election Day rather than automatically extending to the early-voting dates.

A little preparation now can make the actual visit more straightforward.

Residents of Shelby, Bullitt, Nelson and other surrounding counties should confirm arrangements with their own county clerk, because Jefferson County locations do not serve every reader in the 502 region.
